This week we are featuring Janneke of The Blushing Mermaid. Janneke makes stunning beaded confections to adorn your ears, neck, and wrists! Check out her story:
“In my jewelry you can see that the Art Nouveau, Art Deco and nature are a great source of inspiration. I love to make organic, nature inspired necklaces but sometimes a clean cut set of stones sends me in the direction of the Art Nouveau. ‘Wild Woman’ jewelry is my tribal line and I like to create these bold designs as much as I do the other pieces.
The names for my jewelry come from films, paintings, books, poems etc. and while working on a piece they just pop up.
I find custom orders very inspiring and to design a piece from old (inherited) beads gives me and my customers great pleasure.
Originally I am a quilter, I started making jewelry when I had 2 exhibitions in a row and sold almost all the quilts in the first one. There were some glass vitrine cases in the exhibition room and I asked if I could use them for my jewelry. I had never made a piece of jewelry in my life and my friends thought I had gone crazy ….. the rest is history.
Photography is important when having an Etsy shop and I am very lucky with my model, the lovely and talented Anne Robin, who happens to be my granddaughter.”
