Featured Customer of the Week – Molly Kimball of ElephantBeads

This week we are featuring Molly Kimball of ElephantBeads! Molly makes fun and colorful beaded jewelry that is certain to tickle anybody’s fancy! Check out her story:Elephant Beads“I have a career that focuses on practical, real-world, corporate solutions – and I love the work I do. I also have a lifelong interest in creating things with my hands. My best teachers were my grandmothers – one taught me to work with yarn, crocheting and knitting, and the other taught me to work with paint, and the fine points of color composition. Though my weekday hours are spent in the corporate world, I have kept my grandmothers’ artistic influence alive throughout the years.

Most recently, I have embraced beading and beadwork. Threading beads on a string or a wire or weaving them into a mini-tapestry is like playing with magic. My shop was born in 2010 because my stash of cool rocks and beads simply became too big, and my hobby needed to become a (very small) business. I have settled into this as my new “work away from work,” and it completely satisfies my inner artist.

As a self-taught designer, I spend a lot of time field-testing my own creations. I like to make jewelry that will last, so I use materials that are high quality, and that don’t have allergens. If I use alloy metals, I ensure that they are lead-free, and I always prefer sterling silver, copper, niobium or stainless steel, though sometimes Tibetan and other silvers sneak into my designs simply because the beads are so lovely.

ElephantBeads creations are made in a small, well-lit space in my home. In addition to the beading, I enjoy working the metal in some of my designs – cutting, hammering and shaping metal components and wire. Thank you for visiting!”

  1. Thank you so much for featuring my shop in your newsletter! What makes the feature even more special is that for many years UnkamenSupplies has been one of my favorite go-to shops for supplies!
